We are moving into Kenya!
We have exciting news to share...The Women's Bakery (TWB) is expanding into Kenya!
This milestone has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to officially announce that our first Kenyan bakery will open in the greater Nairobi Metropolitan Area. The bakery will follow the hub-and-spoke model that has helped us sustainably grow our impact across Rwanda, allowing us to serve more communities while creating opportunities for women.
This expansion has been intentional. As we considered how to grow beyond Rwanda, we knew we didn't simply want to open another bakery, we wanted to build a strong foundation that reflects who we are. At the heart of TWB is our commitment to empowering women, and that means creating workplaces where women can build secure, thriving futures.
Our Whole Woman Programming remains central to this vision. By investing in financial literacy, leadership development, health and well-being, and professional growth, we create opportunities that extend far beyond employment. As we establish our presence in Kenya, these programs will be woven into the fabric of our new bakery from the very beginning.
Our goal is to open the doors to our new bakery in early 2027. We'll begin with a soft launch, giving customers the opportunity to experience TWB products, learn about our mission, and become part of our journey before our full opening.

We are already laying the groundwork for this exciting new chapter. We have hired a Kenya Bakery Development Project Manager who will support the setup of the Kenya operations. She has begun building relationships with schools and community partners in Kenya and recently spent time at our Kigali bakery learning every aspect of our model – from production and operations to our customer experience and organizational culture. These early investments will help ensure that our Kenyan bakery reflects the same quality, values, and impact that define TWB in Rwanda.
While we look ahead to Kenya, our commitment to Rwanda remains as strong as ever. We will continue expanding our programs, growing our bakeries, and increasing the number of women employed and children nourished throughout Rwanda, even as we open new doors across the border.
This is more than an expansion into a new country. It is the beginning of the next chapter in The Women's Bakery's story – one where we empower even more women, nourish more communities, and demonstrate that a sustainable social enterprise can create lasting change across East Africa.
