FOR WOMEN AND TEAM MEMBERS
Professional Development
Initial and ongoing baking training is provided to all bakers, focusing on baking skills, product development, efficiencies and project management.
Each new baker completes 480 hours of accredited bakery training. This training allows our bakers to develop the skills needed to work at any commercial bakery. Every quarter, all bakers take part in 30 hours of professional training that continues to evolve their skills.
Childcare
At both bakeries, we provide childcare to all our employees at an onsite “Baby House,” ensuring children have a safe place to be each day. We also help identify at-home care for times when the Baby House is not available.
8 children are currently being taken care of at one of our three Baby Houses while their mothers work.
Financial Literacy Training
This offering has empowered women to manage their finances more effectively, fostering a culture of savings that contributes to their overall financial well-being and stability.
For 80%
of team member’s families, TWB is the main source
of income.
100% of team members are given their own bank account and receive financial literacy training within their first year of working for TWB as well as annual financial literacy going forward.
Health Insurance
TWB has provided health insurance for its team members since 2017. It covers prescription medications and specialized treatments, as well as access to top-level medical facilities. We provide access to well-being and psychosocial support through an on-site professional who works with team members as they navigate challenges. Where additional support is required, referrals and access to external professional support services are also facilitated.
100% of our team members — 46 bakers, 21 other team members, and 7 retired bakers — have health insurance coverage. We also provide coverage for 110 dependents.
As part of our commitment to women’s well-being and dignity beyond employment, TWB provides health insurance coverage for 7 retired bakers and their dependents, ensuring ongoing access to healthcare after their service.
Work Meals
All team members enjoy breakfast and lunch at work each day. Team members take turns volunteering for food prep and cooking daily meals. Vegetable gardens at the Musanze and Gicumbi bakeries provide fresh produce for our lunch-at-work program.
We offer 2 meals, twice a day for all of our bakers and team members.
FOR CHILDREN
One Bread Project (OBP)
OBP is our school snack program, aimed at reducing malnutrition among children. We serve students through OBP at our three bakery locations,: Kigali, Gicumbi, and our newest bakery, Musanze. We serve schools for free and at a subsidized rate.
We partnered with 122 schools in 2025.
We reached over 27,000 students in 2025.
OBP’s NutriBun bread snack is fortified with protein, fiber, and 9 vitamins and nutrients.
OBP Growth over Time
FOR COMMUNITY
Our bakeries bring nutritious, fortified baked goods to their community, and boost the local economy through employment and purchase of ingredients. We support women in pursuing entrepreneurship and income-generating projects post-retirement, enabling them to continue supporting themselves, their families, and their communities beyond active employment within the bakery.
Make it count
Nearly half of the funding we receive—49%—supports our social impact initiatives. Learn more about how donations are used, and check out our Annual Reports, on our Finacials page.
