Sustainability and Reach
At the end of last year, The Women’s Bakery purchased three electric vehicles — two trucks and one van — to deliver bread to schools and retail markets across the communities we serve. In addition to reducing emissions, these vehicles help lower transportation costs amid rising fuel prices in Rwanda.
While the electric vehicles are a major step forward in sustainability, charging can be challenging in some of the more rural areas where we work, particularly near Musanze and Gicumbi. To help address this challenge, we also purchased two e-bikes. The e-bikes can travel longer distances between charges and access areas that may be difficult for larger vehicles to reach due to road conditions.
These additions to our fleet are helping us deliver nutritious bread more efficiently while reducing our environmental impact. We are excited to continue increasing the sustainability of TWB’s operations and expanding our reach to the communities we serve.
