She Creates Change: Jeanne D’Arc Story of Empowerment
Jeanne D’Arc has inspired many of our team members and continues to create change in herself, her family, and in her community. This is her story of empowerment.
My name is Jeanne D’Arc Yabaragiyye. I am 39 years old, a mother of two wonderful children, and a wife. For the past ten years, I have been working with The Women’s Bakery, a journey that has transformed my life in ways I have never imagined.
Background & Journey
Before joining The Women’s Bakery, life was extremely challenging. Life felt uncertain, and hope was fragile.
Everything changed when I received training through The Women’s Bakery. I learned how to bake, gained new skills, and discovered my own potential. This opportunity opened a new path for me and marked the beginning of my journey toward empowerment.
Growth & Transformation
Since becoming a baker, I have gained essential skills such as leadership, saving, and basic financial calculations, skills I never thought I could learn, especially since I did not have the chance to attend school.
This opportunity has completely transformed my life. I can now provide food for my family, pay school fees, and care for my loved ones with dignity. I am proud of the trust and respect I have earned in my community—people now call me “Boss,” a symbol of confidence, leadership, and empowerment. My income has improved, together with my confidence, independence, and decision-making ability.
Challenges & Resilience
This journey has not been easy. I faced many struggles, but I overcame them with determination and the strong support of my fellow women bakers. Together, we lifted each other up, reminding ourselves that strength grows when women stand together.
Aspirations & Future Dreams
In the next five years, I see myself as a professional baker and a fully empowered woman. I want to continue growing, leading, and inspiring other women. I want my children and my community to see that everything is possible when you commit your heart and mind to your dreams.
Impact on Family & Community
My work has allowed me to support my family in meaningful ways, ensuring that my children are healthy, educated, and hopeful about their future. Today, my community sees me as an empowered woman and a role model proof that when women are given opportunities, they create change not only for themselves but for everyone around them.
Reflection & Message
To me, being an empowered woman means having the strength, capability, and confidence to believe in myself. My advice to other women is simple: believe in yourself, stay focused, and pursue your purpose with courage.
On this International Women’s Day, I want to remind women everywhere:
When a woman believes in herself, she creates change for her family, her community, and the world.
