Why Give? Donor Spotlight: Kristen Mueller

In the following interview, monthly donor Kristen Mueller explains why and how she gives to The Women’s Bakery.

1) Tell us about yourself. Who are you and what to you do for a living?

I am from Wisconsin, and moved to St Louis 10 years ago for work as an ER doctor. I'm an avid traveler, and support work like this that gives agency to women's ability to earn a living wage, attain education, and apply skills in a way that improves the health of the community.

2) How did you learn about The Women’s Bakery (TWB?)

Through the delightful Markey Culver! I am good friends with her cousin, and it has been a joy to know Markey. I am continually impressed with her initiative and ability to innovate this work.

3) Why do you choose to donate to TWB?

I like knowing that money I choose to donate is being used in sustainable ways, with well defined and achievable objectives. Also I believe in everything this organization is trying to do, from improved nutrition, finance and business education for women, to giving women more power over their lives through fiscal independence.

4) Why do you choose to donate monthly rather than sporadically?

If I donate monthly, I don't forget. Also, I think it's easier for organizations to plan their annual budgets if they can plan for consistent income streams.

5) What is your favorite aspect of the organization or something unique about TWB?

Definitely the potential for female independence and empowerment. Those skills and traits will go far beyond a woman's work at the bakery.

6) Is there anything else you’d like to add about donating to TWB or to nonprofit organizations such as TWB?

Do it more!
