TWB Founder, Markey Culver, is graduating this week from Washington University. The school featured her in a recent article on the top students of the class. Read more about her great accomplishment here.

In March, Peace Corps Rwanda hosted a 70+ km bike ride in support of women's empowerment - especially for women to be able to ride bicycles. The culmination of the ride resulted in a new bicycle for the Remera Women's Bakery. Read the full story on the Peace Corps main page! #breadpower

TWB advocate and founder of The Better Have, Angela Flotken, writes, "The Women’s Bakery is an incredible organization with a life-changing mission. As you know, my mom is from Africa which has always pulled my heart towards improving the lives of people in that part of the world. For the second year in a row, a CEL Practicum team is traveling to Rwanda to consult for The Women’s Bakery (TWB), founded by Olin second year MBA Markey Culver. This year, the CEL team is tasked with analyzing various model options for TWB as we grow and expand throughout Africa. Read more here!

The Women's Bakery has entered Phase II of our training with the Togetherness Cooperative (in conjunction with African Road and so the group of men and women are beginning to learn how to bake healthy, nutritious (and delicious) TWB breads. Read more here!

Empowering women is more than just a catchy phrase for The Women's Bakery. In this blog, hosted by The Her Initiative, US Programs Officer, Heather Newell, explains what she has learned about empowerment through the mission and work of TWB. 

Launched in 2012 by Sidley Austin (an international business law firm), the Emerging Enterprises Pro Bono Program provides free legal support to eligible small and medium-sized for-profit enterprises and market focused NGSOs and non-profits that have a clear social impact in developing countries across Africa, Central & South America, and the Caribbean. 

As a guest blogger for Mavuno, a non-profit that empowers local leaders in the Congo to drive development efforts, Markey shares insights on the deeper meaning of "social entrepreneurship" and how business can be harnessed for good.
